Thor: new design for Mjolnir

In 2022 we celebrate Thor’s sixty years of honorable career. The God of Thunder in fact made his first appearance in Journey into Mystery # 83 of August 1962, soon becoming one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Universe. To celebrate this important milestone, this year we will not only have the opportunity to see the Asgardian at the cinema again, with Thor: Love And Thunderbut also to witness a series of editorial initiatives, including a new design for Mjolnir, the famous hammer of Thor.

For Thor’s 60th anniversary, Mjolnir will have a new design

The new design for Mjolnir will be inspired by the version we will see in Thor: Love and Thunder, and will be the culmination of a narrative path that is taking place in these months. In April, with Thor # 24 the 750 numbers of the series dedicated to the God of Thunder will be celebrated, an occasion accompanied by the return of some historical authors of the character, even if the attention remains focused on the narrative arc of God of Hammers, where Donny Cates is telling how Thor has lost both Mjolnir that the beloved father, Odin. The appearance of a new Mjolnirhowever, it will hold a surprise for Thor: the soul of the father dwells inside the hammer!

To carry out the redesign of Mjolnir is Nick Klein, whose preparatory studies show a weapon characterized by the presence of numerous cracks. These have been sealed with a golden material that reflects the color of the handle. This new interpretation seems to come close to what Mjolnir should look like in Thor: Love and Thunder, as evidenced by the promotional art where Jane Foster wielded the hammer reconstructed from the fragments into which it was reduced by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok.

Waiting to see how Thor will use this new Mjolnir, our curiosity is further piqued by Marvel Comics, which has announced that to better celebrate the God of Thunder on its head, historical names such as Walter Simonson And Al Ewing.
