Removing the charger from the iPhone is profitable, this is all that Apple has earned

A study reveals the millions that Apple has saved by not including the charger in the iPhone box.

Two years ago, with the arrival of the iPhone 12 generation, Apple made a controversial and criticized decision: remove both the charger and the headphones from the iPhone box. The company’s excuse was based on two pillars: we all have chargers at home and it is a decision in favor of the environment by not creating more technological waste. However, this decision has saved Apple billions of dollars.

According to a recent report, Apple has managed to save more than 6,500 million dollars by ceasing to provide chargers and earphones along with iPhones. The study estimates that Apple saves about $35 per iPhone sold, a much higher figure than previously calculated, adding to these savings both the non-inclusion of accessories and the smaller size of the box that makes it possible to send more iPhone in one order.

Yes, Apple saves money, but it also helps the environment

The study itself acknowledges that a good part of the savings is in transport, which inevitably means that moving iPhones around the world generates fewer emissions. In addition, there is no doubt that if only those who need it buy a charger, the technological waste is reduced.

According to Apple data, this decision makes the carbon footprint is reduced by 2 million tons, which is equivalent to taking 500,000 cars off the road. Steps that are mandatory for Apple to fulfill its promise to become carbon neutral by 2030.

As part of our efforts to achieve our environmental goals, iPhones do not include a power adapter or EarPods. Please use your current power adapters and headphones or purchase these separately.

This number of $6.5 billion It is the result of multiplying the 35 dollars that the American giant saves with each iPhone with this initiative by the number of units sold since this measure was taken, a total of 190 million iPhones.

But that is not all. According to the report, Apple would have entered a total of 293.4 million dollars from the sale of chargers derived from the absence of these in the boxes, being the price of these 19 dollars, 25 euros in Europe.

Steve Jobs always paid for other people’s food, but there was a catch

Although it is a measure that can be criticized, the truth is that many of the big companies have imitated it. Actually, most users already have a charger at home, and if this is not the case, better chargers than Apple’s can be obtained at very affordable prices. That yes, there is no doubt that Apple has benefited financially of this decision.
