Opinion: 10 years on Twitter

Opinion: 10 years on Twitter

Last month, I received a notification that it was my Twitter birthday. My account was created on 19 February 2012.

Twitter has been my favorite and social media platform ever since I created my account. This is where I am able to state my current thoughts and opinions about Apple, Tech, Mountain Dew, and the media.

Over the years, I have come to really enjoy it and it has been a part of my daily life. In fact, I’ve had accounts since I was in high school, which makes me feel old as soon as I type it.

It was the summer of 2012 when I had jaw surgery and my aunt bought some iTunes gift cards for me after such a difficult surgery (it was 9.5 hours after jaw surgery, so let it sink in for a moment) ) And one of those gift card purchases was the Tweetbot… and it’s changed the way I look and view Twitter forever.Tweetbot Tips I’ll admit it took me a while to get used to Tweetbot and its different interface. However, I liked the app more than the official Twitter app, especially since Twitter focused more on highlighting tweets a while back, whereas I was always looking for the latest tweets on my timeline.

It was Tweetbot that brought me to Twitter, which prompted me to not only buy the new version of it, but also on other devices like my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The app had captured most of my Twitter usage.

When using the app on Mac back in the day, it was nice to be able to see new tweets as they came with its older streaming feature.

At school and in the working world it has been strange when some people have asked me about Tweetbot because they are unfamiliar with it. I’ve explained to them what it is and how it works, but they either don’t understand it or think it’s some kind of Twitter knock-off and look at it like Tweetbot is its own social network. I’ve always told them to buy it and try it, but when you’re asking a young person to actually buy a Twitter app, they’re going to tell you “Boy, aren’t you stupid that you actually got one. Have a paid “Twitter App” look. So, I just go about my business and enjoy the app for myself.

Fast forward many years, Twitter is still my favorite social network of them all. This is the first app I open when I wake up in the morning and start my day. This app is also what allows me to keep a pulse on everything that is happening in the world.

Another aspect of the social network that I love is that it still focuses on keeping things short and to the point. Yes, that expanded to 280 characters per tweet in 2017, but I believe tweets are still pretty short to the point where I don’t think anyone is saying too much in a single online post. It also makes users more creative.

Finally, Twitter has given me permission to do so.

A lot of my friends and colleagues initially met through Twitter. I have sources that have helped me and told me stories just for the sake of Applesophy. If it weren’t for Twitter and Tweetbot, this wouldn’t have been possible or not so easy to do.

Twitter is a great social network and while it’s still not perfect, I hope to see more beneficial improvements in the years to come.

As for my use of Tweetbot and not using the Twitter app like other users, it won’t stop anytime soon. Tweetbot looks and feels like a Twitter app and Twitter has no other app on the market right now to compete with it, and I don’t see it doing anything like that anytime in the near future.

With that said, I don’t plan on getting off Twitter anytime soon. If I stayed on it for another 10 years, I wouldn’t be shocked. That’s all I like.
