What are the white areas?

Based on the distinction established by the European Commission white areas are defined as territories without an ultra-broadband connection in which private operators do not deem it appropriate to invest (for this reason we also speak of “market failure” areas).

White areas include, but are not limited to more isolated areas: rural and mountain localities are white areas, where the construction of the infrastructure is made difficult by the physical characteristics of the territory, but also addresses in the hinterland of large cities are part of the white areas.

As for Italy, the white areas are further divided into two clusters (C and D), which respectively provide a partial or total intervention of the State in the construction of network infrastructures.

Open Fiber’s commitment to white areas

Open Fiber is the winning wholesale operator of all three calls for tenders for the Ultra Broadband Strategic Planwhich provides for the implementation of the latest generation connectivity with GPON technology (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) in the white areas of the Italian territory.

As a public concessionaire on behalf of Infratela company part of the Ministry of Economic Development, until now Open Fiber has brought the fiber optic network with FTTH technology in more than 3200 Municipalitiesusing both private and public funds.

The supply of Open Fiber is ad open access: this means that all national and local operators can use its network infrastructures. To date more than 200 operators have chosen Open Fiber infrastructures, including Aruba.

The Open Fiber network architecture on which the Aruba optical fiber rests is compatible with the technologic innovations present and future: its maximum download speed of 1 Gbps will allow you to make video calls, play games and connect home automation devices. Optical fiber also has a lower environmental impact compared to copper networks and requires less maintenance.

How to check network coverage

Check the network coverage of Aruba fiber is simple: just go to the dedicated page on the website and enter the address of your home.

If you return to the white areas where the Aruba fiber has already arrived a banner will notify you of the rescheduling of the prices of the offers. In any case, there are no extra activation or migration costs.

If, on the other hand, the Aruba fiber does not yet reach your address, you can be notified by e-mail of the entry into coverage: the offer is in fact constantly expanding and soon the Aruba fiber will be extended to beyond 1500 Municipalities.
