Xiaomi, the latest brand to be accused of manipulating results in benchmarks

The founder of one of the most famous benchmarks has accused Xiaomi of manipulating the results achieved by their mobiles.

After it was discovered that Samsung was deliberately limiting the performance of its phones by running thousands of applications, except performance tests –or benchmarksnow there are new accusations against Xiaomiwhich apparently would also be carrying out similar techniques, with the aim of get better results in this type of tests.

The accusation comes from the John Poole, founder of Primate Labsthe company in charge of developing the popular tool GeekBench. Indicates that Xiaomi it’s also “making performance decisions based on application identifiers”.

Xiaomi would be manipulating the benchmark results to obtain higher scores.

Xiaomi would also be “trickling” the result of the benchmarks

Xiaomi is one of the firms that, on occasions, have used the impressive results achieved in benchmarks by some of their phones to promote them, especially in China. Recently, it has even been possible to obtain a screenshot that shows how one of the next Xiaomi mobiles manages to exceed one million points in AnTuTu.

But John Poole does not seem entirely happy with these results. The founder of Primate Labs has carried out several tests, with which he tries to demonstrate that Xiaomi would be manipulating the results of the performance tests, “unleashing” the maximum power of the devices when these types of applications are executed.

Best 8 Android benchmark apps: find out the power of your mobile

The results are quite illuminating: running the GeekBench app “camouflaged” as if it were a game* –Fortnite, to be exact– on a Xiaomi Mi 11, the result of the multicore test falls by 15%and in the mononucleus, in 30%.

the developer got similar results by hiding the performance test behind other apps, like Genshin Impact. Therefore, it seems clear that Xiaomi would be manipulating the performance of its devices based on the type of application running.

Xiaomi is not the first, nor will it be the last brand accused of carrying out techniques like this. A few months ago, GeekBench also decided to “ban” the OnePlus 9 Pro, after discovering that the Chinese brand was manipulating the test results. And the same with Samsung, which even had to issue a formal statement where he explained the reasons behind his decision to limit the performance of his devices.
