Time is the most valuable thing we have in life, and it seems we never have enough of it. Well, a group of scientists have managed to do just that, although it most likely won’t be a time machine or anything.

Scientists published a paper on the discovery in scientific report, In the report, the researchers detail how they managed to reverse time inside a quantum computer. This is a great achievement, although, as stated above, it is unlikely to lead to the invention of a time machine or anything.

What it could do, however, is help make quantum computers more accurate in the future. But, the discovery did more than just prove that we can respect time in some way. It also showed that something like this is so complex and impossible to do, that it is very unlikely to happen naturally, perhaps even impossible.

The researchers say they set out to see if they could get a single particle to spontaneously reverse time, even if only for a fraction of a second. To do this, they set out to test it both in their laboratory environment and in a natural setting. A thought experiment began with a localized electron, which essentially meant that they were fairly certain of its position in a very small space.


Unfortunately, quantum mechanics is a tricky field, and the laws of quantum mechanics make it difficult to state the position of an electron with absolute accuracy. The idea was that they would be able to reverse time and determine the exact initial location of the electron. They also found that the larger the experiment, the less accurate it became.

The finding is intriguing and could change how quantum computers measure their accuracy in the future. We’ve seen a lot of news lately regarding quantum mechanics and advances in computers.
