The new flagship generation of Samsung is already a reality after a year of waiting. The company has once again replicated the model that has worked so well for it in recent years: two base models with similar features and another more expensive one with the firm’s most cutting-edge technology. Precisely because of the economic section, the two terminals that expect to accumulate the most sales throughout 2023 are the Galaxy S23 and S23+. Taking into account that the price that separates them is close to 300 euros, the question is the following: What are the differences between the Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S23 Plus? We see it below.

  • Offer of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus of 256 GB for 1,020 euros: Amazon
  • Offer of the Samsung Galaxy S22 of 256 GB for 695 euros: Amazon
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 of 128 GB for 960 euros: Amazon
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus of 256 GB for 1,210 euros: Amazon

The prices indicated in the article could vary over time, so at tuexperto.com we limit ourselves to analyzing the differences as of the publication date. On the other hand, the specifications could vary depending on the market.

Design: the main difference is the size

That’s right, since the two terminals share the same chassis. We are talking about a difference in the dimensions of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus of about 30 grams, with the same thickness (7.6 millimeters) and a difference in height and width of more than 10 and 5 millimeters respectively. Proof that the Asian firm has started from an identical design is that both are sold in the same color options (black, white, green and lavender) and are made of metal and glass. On the other hand, the IP68 certification remains in force in both versions to protect against dust and water.

As for the rest of the design details, both bet on an ultrasonic sensor under the screen, in addition to a Dolby Atmos-certified double speaker configuration located at the top and bottom. Unfortunately, neither have a 3.5mm headphone portalthough they support two SIM cards, in addition to eSIM technology.

Very advanced screens, but they are not the latest in Samsung

In the previous generation, the Galaxy S22 Plus differed from the base S22 in maximum brightness. Now both reach the same 1,750 nits, with a Dynamic AMOLED X2 panel with Full HD+ resolution (not Quad HD+, like the Ultra model) and second-generation LTPO technology. Not being third, the panel frequency only dances between 48 and 120 Hz, nothing of 1 Hz like the most expensive model of the three. This can also influence the energy consumption of the panel, although its lower resolution offsets this.

Otherwise, both have the highest protection, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, in addition to HDR10 + certification for compatible content. The size, by the way, is 6.1 and 6.6 inches respectively, something that at this point is not new after two generations with the same differences.

Same power, although the Plus model starts with a larger storage

The main novelty of the Galaxy S23 comes from the processor, which in this case has the signature of Qualcomm worldwide, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Both have 8 GB of RAM and start from versions of 128 in the base model, the Galaxy S23, and 256 GB in the Plus version. Some rumors claim that the former uses slower memory based on the UFS 3.1 standard., while its older brother could operate on the new 4.0 standard. This could affect performance in the long term, especially when we have a multitude of applications installed on the terminal.

The rest of the features are practically identical, such as the GPU or the frequency at which the processor works, since the company has designed a new dissipation system based on a vapor chamber to lower the maximum temperature and sustain performance for longer. Likewise, the connections associated with the processor are the same in both cases: 5G SA and NSA, 4G LTE and eSIM, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS compatible with GLONASS, Beidou and Galileo satellites, NFC for mobile payments and USB type C. The latter supports Dex, Samsung’s interface that resembles a traditional computer system. and that is activated when we connect the phone to a monitor.

Same cameras, so there should be no apparent differences

Few are the novelties that we find in the photographic section, if not to say none. In both cases we find a photographic configuration made up of three cameras on the back of 50, 12 and 10 megapixels with optical stabilization on the first and wide-angle and telephoto lenses with optical zoom of three increases in the last two. The focal aperture is identical, while the differences should be non-existent.

Where we do find novelties is in the image processor and the digital stabilization system, which promise improvements in the clarity of videos and photos in complex light and movement conditions. Additionally, Pro mode now offers manual parameter adjustment without losing the resolution of the main sensor. The front camera also allows full manual control for professional results. pro mode allows the creation of RAW files with resolution of the main and front sensor of 50 and 12 megapixels. The front camera, by the way, has also been renewed and now has 12 megapixels and the same focal length as its predecessor (f/2.2).

Autonomy and load: obvious differences due to size

The bigger the size, the bigger the battery capacity. Even with everything, the Galaxy S23 has increased its battery compared to the S22, with 3,900 mAh that are still a long way from the 4,700 mAh that his older brother continues to offer. It remains to be seen if the difference in screen size has a negative impact on the S23 Plus, although it is likely that it will have greater autonomy.

When it comes to charging, both support 45W fast charging, although they do not include a standard charger. Yes indeed, due to the lower capacity of the S23, it is likely to charge faster. Wireless charging is still 15 W and the reverse is 4.5 W.

Price, opinion and conclusions, Samsung Galaxy S23 or S23 Plus?

After analyzing the main differences between the S23 and the S23 Plus, it is time to draw conclusions. The starting price of these two terminals places them at 960 and 1,210 euros, with a difference of more than 200 euros between one model and another. As we have just seen, the only characteristics that differentiate them are the screen, the autonomy and the speed of writing and reading the memory. The question is this: Is it worth paying almost 20% of the price of the S23 for its older brother? Depends.

If comfort is our main priority, the base model is much more compact than the S23 Plus, whose dimensions are not suitable for all audiences. The question that must be asked is whether it is worth getting the S23 Plus having its predecessor version on offer on Amazon, although it is already out of stock. The processor may justify buying the latest model, but how much?
