January 2023 update goes live for Galaxy S10 Lite in the US


Nearly two weeks after rolling out Android 13, Samsung is rolling out another update for the Galaxy S10 Lite in the US. The latest release brings a new security patch. While the phone is yet to receive the February SMR (Security Maintenance Release), last month’s patch is available now. The Galaxy S10 Lite has already received the January security update in most international markets.

Samsung just released the factory-unlocked variant of the Galaxy S10 Lite in the US (model no. SM-G770U1, Those units are getting January SMR comprehensively. The update is live on most carrier networks, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, MetroPCS, US Cellular, Comcast, Cricket Wireless, Tracfone, Nextech, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South, and Xfinity Mobile (via). The update does not bring any new features or user-facing changes to the Galaxy S10 Lite. But this is not surprising. The affordable Galaxy flagship picked up Samsung’s Android 13-based One UI 5.0 custom software just two weeks back. The latest release is all about vulnerability fixes. This time around there are over 70 fixes in tow. Most of them (over 50) are Android OS patches from Google, with the Android maker labeling them all as high-severity issues. The remaining 20-odd patches are specific to Galaxy devices and come directly from Samsung.

Galaxy S10 Lite gets first security update since Android 13

Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 Lite in January 2020. This phone was running Android 10 out of box. Android 13 was the last major Android release for handsets. Android 14 will not be available in it. One UI 5.1 will also not be available in the affordable Galaxy flagship. However, the Galaxy S10 Lite will continue to receive security updates for at least another year. Updates may come less frequently as the device gets older, but Samsung will support it until at least February 2024.
