Currently, the company competes in the premium range with its Dimensity 9200, in the high with the Dimensity 8200 and now its commitment to a lower level has just come out: this is the new MediaTek Dimensity 7200, the first 4nm processor in the mid-range. A glory-hungry chip: he could kick his rivals, has 5G and has an excellent ISP
MediaTek’s new chip uses the same 4nm process that TSMC makes the Dimensity 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This means that the energy efficiency of the Dimensity 7200 is fantasticso you can unleash its full power without fear of quickly draining your battery.
Inside, the Dimensity 7200 has 8 cores, divided as follows: 2 high-performance Cortex-A715 cores and 6 high-efficiency Cortex-A510 cores. Also, its graphics is an ARM Mali G610 MC4 (with 4 cores).
According to MediaTek, the raw performance of this SoC in Geekbench is higher than that of its direct rival, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. They don’t dare say the same for graphics power, but they do reveal that the Dimensity 7200 manages to score between 100 and 120 fps in Manhattan GFX. This chip is capable of handling screens with resolutions up to Full HD+, refresh rates up to 144 Hz, HDR10+, Dolby HDR and CUVA HDR10. The first may not be much, but the rest is fantastic.
However, the other thing that is really great in this SoC is its image processor. The Dimensity 7200 carries a Imagiq 765 ISP supporting cameras up to 200 MP, but it goes much further: thanks to the 14-bit HDR-ISP coprocessor and its new AI Processing Unit (APU), the 7200 is capable of capturing 4K video with HDR, recording dual 1080p video with autofocus and greatly increase its performance in night photography. It may not reach the fantastic cameras of the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 Pro, but you could be in for a big surprise.
Along with all this, the new MediaTek Dimensity 7200 also offers the following:
- 5G sub-6 GHz connectivity with download speeds up to 4.7 Gbps, Wi-Fi 6E tri-band and Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio.
- LPDDR5 RAM with speed up to 6400 Mbps and UFS 3.1 storage (maximum capacities not listed).
- Hyper Engine 5.0 with Variable Rate Shading (VRS) to improve gaming performance without negatively impacting consumption.
When will the first phones with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 appear?
According to MediaTek itself, the Dimensity 7200 is already on sale and being sent to different mobile manufacturers, especially in China. This means that the first devices to equip it are just around the corner. So much so, that the company ensures that could arrive in the first quarter of 2023 (just a few weeks).
