A study has shown how drinking Coca-Cola and Pepsi can lead to larger testicles and higher testosterone levels.

Northwest Minzhu University in China was attempting to determine the effects of carbonated beverages on fertility and sexual organs in men.

The study looked at three groups of rats one that drank only water, another that drank different levels of Coca-Cola and another that did the same with Pepsi over 15 days.

Testing on rodents involved weighing their testicles and drawing blood. They were tested on the first day as well as on the fifth, seventh, 10th and 15th day.

It was quickly discovered that rats drinking Coke and 100 percent Pepsi had a significant change compared to a mixture of Pepsi and water.

For example, rats that were given pure Coca-Cola had higher levels of male hormones than the group that drank water.

The study concluded: “Drinking Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola may stimulate testis development and increase testosterone secretion.” [ ] Our findings provide a scientific basis for a more complete understanding of the effects of carbonated beverages and their mechanisms on the development and reproductive function of humans, and how they benefit prostate dysfunction and cancer prevention.

However, this contradicts previous studies which indicated that sugary drinks make men less fertile rather than more, as the new study suggests.

A previous survey of 2500 men showed that those who drank a liter of cola a day had 30 percent less sperm than those who did not drink.

But some research has shown how caffeine can increase testosterone levels.
