YouTube for Android TV adds more Google Assistant commands, podcasts page


In addition to the upcoming addition of non-skippable and pauseable screen ads, the YouTube app on Android and Google TV receives support for more Assistant Voice Commands in the first quarter of 2023.

Existing Google Assistant voice commands let you play/resume, pause/pause, fast-forward, rewind, go to the next/last video, restart a clip, and turn off closed captions on YouTube for Android TV allows to do.

You can now like/dislike a video and un/subscribe to a channel with “Hey Google, like this video, dislike this video, subscribe or unsubscribe”.

YouTube for TV has also added the podcast theme which was first introduced on the web. It’s located in the More tab at first, but it’ll move up in the menu if you watch podcast content more often. This includes YouTube Music and various carousels like “Your New Episodes” and “Your Saved Shows” from the main service. There are also various recommendations, popular episodes, and various genres.


Meanwhile, YouTube is now showing Shorts content in search results, and Google has made the Recommended Shelf more responsive:
