The iPhone 15 series is about to be unveiled soon, and although Apple hasn’t officially confirmed when we’ll get these new smartphones, we can make a prediction based on past release dates.
Hardware companies are rarely inconsistent with launch dates, and Apple is no exception. These types of annual products often need to be released in a limited time, otherwise, if a new product follows too closely to the previous model, your newly released product will be difficult to sell to people. And based on iPhone release dates from the past several years, we have a prediction for when the iPhone 15 is coming.
iPhone 15 Expected Launch Date
The iPhone 15 series will most likely be unveiled this September, as Apple continues to hold its fall event during that month. You can trace this phenomenon back to 2007, and since 2012, the company hasn’t lost a single year.
But the iPhone launch dates are nowhere near consistent. The only absolute pattern is that they’ve been released in the fall since the iPhone 4S (except for the SE model), which came out back in 2011. Otherwise, there might be a slight bias in specific months, but by analyzing past dates, it is clear that Apple prefers a specific month more than other months.

| phone | release date | day of the week |
|---|---|---|
| iphone 14 | 16 September 2022 | Friday |
| iphone 13 | September 24, 2021 | Friday |
| iphone 12 | 23 October 2020 | Friday |
| iphone 11 | 20 September 2019 | Friday |
| iphone xs | September 14, 2018 | Friday |
| iphone x | 3 November 2017 | Friday |
As the table above shows, Apple loves September. If we go by the October launch of the iPhone 12 (a result of the Covid-19 delay) and the iPhone 14 from September 24. Unless Apple faces hardware production issues that push it to October or November, we’re expecting this trend to continue.
Because Apple has been consistent with launch dates for the most part, the new iPhone series will almost certainly launch this fall, with the month of September even more likely. But as you can see from the table, Apple launches new iPhone models on Fridays.
This year there are only two Fridays within the above ten-day period, and they are September 15 and September 22. It is also possible that it could happen on September 29, but Apple has never launched an iPhone model before the end of the month.

It’s also possible that it could launch on September 9, but once again, Apple has never released an iPhone in early September.
That leaves us with September 15th and September 22nd as the prime suspects, and it’s like flipping a coin between the two. It looks like Apple is favoring slightly late September dates, so we’re betting the iPhone 15 launch will take place on September 22 this year. Apple also often holds its September event on the Tuesday or Wednesday of the week before its launch, which falls on the 12th or 13th.
Lock it in—Laptop Mag speculates that Apple’s September event will be held on September 12 or 13, with the iPhone 15 series launching on September 22.
