Best deals of the weekend: Google Nest devices, Nintendo gift cards, and more

Ars Technica

It’s the weekend, which means it’s time for another dealmaster. Our latest round-up of the best tech deals from the web includes some deals on Google Nest devices. The popular Nest Learning Thermostat and the more wallet-friendly Nest Thermostat are both on sale, for example, with the former available for up to $199 and the latter for $100 at various retailers. While neither deal brings in the lowest prices we’ve tracked, both are well below their usual street prices and Google’s MSRPs of $250 and $130, respectively.

In any event, both devices are commendable options for those looking to adopt a smart thermostat, either to cut down on energy use or to have more control over their home’s heating and cooling. The high-end Nest still looks fast, is relatively easy to set up, and works with a wide variety of smart home devices and platforms. It can still “learn” your general heating and cooling preferences, then automatically schedule your future adjustments accordingly, (mostly) staying out of your way over the course of a day. The more affordable Nest thermostat lacks an auto-scheduling feature (though you can still enter a schedule manually), has a cheaper plastic frame, and doesn’t support Google’s remote temperature-balance sensor, but Still looks good and has a similar feature setincluding tools like HVAC monitoring and voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistantfor less money.

If you have no need for a new thermostat, however, other Google devices like the Nest Audio home speaker and Fitbit’s Lux activity tracker are also on sale. Plus, our roundup includes great deals on Nintendo eShop gift cards, a massive 1TB SanDisk microSD card for your Nintendo Switch or Steam deck, multiple Roomba robot vacuums, iPads, AirPods, and more. You can find our full curated roundup below.
