Sony’s WH-1000XM5 noise-canceling headphones may have a new design

Since its release in 2020, Sony’s WH-1000XM4 has consistently been one of the best Bluetooth headphones you can buy thanks to their long-lasting batteries and excellent noise-canceling capabilities. Now it looks like the company has enough upgrades planned. in a leak seen by gizmodoGerman language publication technical Bulletin Shared details on what to expect from the WH-1000XM5.

According to the outlet, Sony’s next flagship noise canceling headphones will have up to 40 hours of battery life. If accurate, this would be a significant improvement from the already impressive 30 hours you can get from the XM4 on a single charge. It will reportedly take about three-and-a-half hours, or about 30 minutes longer than the XM4, to charge the new model to a full charge via USB-C. The new model is also said to include an additional processing chip for ANC and a new set of drivers.

But as you can see from the renders technical Bulletin Shared, the most notable difference between the WH-1000XM4 and its alleged successor is an entirely new design. It looks like the XM5 won’t fold like Sony’s current flagship Bluetooth headphones, but it appears they will feature more padding on the earcups and a lighter band. Many people prefer the WH4 for its comfort and it will be interesting to see if the new model’s design makes it even easier to wear during prolonged listening sessions.

technical Bulletin Nothing was said about the release date or price of the WH-1000XM5. Out of sale, the current model sells for $350. We’ll note here that Sony’s WF-1000XM4 earbuds cost more than their predecessor, as they include features like Qi charging and LDAC support.
