A macro-study from the University of Oxford confirms that using the mobile does not cause tumors of any kind. Let’s see all the details of the investigation.
The urban legend that states that cell phone use can cause brain tumors it has always been there. However, new research from the University of Oxford confirms that it is just that, an urban legend. In fact, it is a macro-study, since they have participated about 800,000 people from United Kingdom.
This research, which focuses on the relationship between mobile phone use and brain tumors, has been carried out by scientists from the University of Oxford and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The results have been clear: the developments of brain tumors have been similar in those who have used the mobile phone than in those who have not. they have done.
Using the mobile phone does not cause brain tumors, according to the University of Oxford.
A macro-study confirms that cell phones do not cause brain tumors
Previous studies already stated that the relationship between mobile phone use and brain tumors was only one of the great technological hoaxes. Now, a major investigation led by scientists at Oxford Population Health and IARC has reconfirmed it so we can keep using our smartphone quietly.
The study has had the participation of 776,156 UK women born between 1935 and 1950. All of them received a follow-up through the English health service, in addition to having to respond to a questionnaire about your mobile phone use in 2001 and in 2011. As you can see, this study has been developed over the years to be even more exhaustive than others previously carried out.
The main effect of mobile phone use is the heating of the skin surface, according to this study.
Specifically, the experts have carried out a 14-year follow-up which has yielded very enlightening results. In this time, a total of 3,268 brain tumors were registered among the research participants. Nevertheless, It has not been detected that the use of the mobile phone was decisive in their appearance.
Taking into account the data collected in 2011, almost 75% of women between 60 and 64 years old used the telephone, while in the age range of 75 to 79 years the percentage decreased to just under 50%. As we have said, among all of them, 3,268 brain tumors, which represents only 0.42%.
As the study explains, mobile phones emit radio frequency electromagnetic fields that can penetrate several centimeters into the head. However, experts say that in the areas most exposed to these electromagnetic fields, the temporal and parietal lobes of the brain, have not detected worrying consequences. According to research results, the main effect is heating of the skin surface.
A study shows that cell phones do not cause brain tumors.
“Mobile technologies are improving all the time, so newer generations put out substantially less power output”, explained Joachim Schz, one of the leaders of the work. Of course, it must be specified that this study has treated users who they use the mobile every daywith some 20 minutes of calls per week what do they wear more than 10 years using the phone.
In the case of users who use the telephone more intensely, it is not yet proven that brain tumors are not related. However, taking into account what is reflected in this and other studies, the most normal thing would be that it did not carry excessive danger either. Until confirmed, it is best to be aware of this risk if you are one of those who spend many hours of the day using the mobile.
