TCL claims best-selling Android TV and retains number two LCD global ranking

TCL has a lot to celebrate! According to OMDIA’s Global TV Design and Features Tracker report, TCL has been named the best-selling Android smart TV brand in the world. Furthermore, and for the third year in a row, TCL Electronics has been confirmed as the second best-selling LCD television brand globally, according to OMDIA’s Global TV Sets Report 2021.

The report confirms that global smart TV set shipments were 189 million units during 2021, during which Android-based (including the AOSP/Android open source project) smart TV shipments accounted for 73.2 million units. TCL claimed the number one selling Android OS smart TV brand after the company shipped a total of 15.1 million TV units, representing a 20.7% global market share.

Ryan Curling, Marketing Manager, TCL South Africa, says, It is simultaneously thrilling and humbling to retain its global number two position as the second best-selling LCD TV brand in the world, but to be named the number one bestseller in the Android market. Absolutely incredible! ! Locally, the South African market is becoming more aware of the greatness our brand brings to consumers and the unique value we offer.

OMDIA’s Global TV Set Report confirms that global LCD TV set shipments stood at 207 million units in 2021, with TCL’s LCD TV shipments accounting for 24.6 million units, representing an 11.9% global market share.

Today, more than ever, TCL wants to push the limits of what is possible with technology and play a vital role in their lives by inspiring customers and helping them enjoy new lifestyle experiences at home.

Over the years, TCL’s core competitiveness has grown and achieved solid results in a challenging market. The company has been a leader in the Mini LED industry since 2018 and will continue to grow with significant technology improvements on its brand-new TCL Mini LED model to provide users around the world with a better viewing experience. Apart from being a beloved TV brand, TCL has successfully strengthened its multi-category range to create a fully connected home for the consumers using best-in-class technology. In 2022, TCL will accelerate its home appliances strategy in Europe and provide a growing line-up of home lifestyle products to meet consumers’ new expectations for healthier living and an easier life at home.

This is a great start to the second quarter of the year and we look forward to sharing more exciting new developments soon, says Ryan.
