Latest AirTag firmware update tunes unwanted tracking sound for easier detection

Earlier this week, Apple began rolling out firmware updates for AirTags, and while it was unclear what changes were included in the update, Apple has now revealed in a new support document that It replaces the sound made by unknown airtags. Was found traveling with you.

Apple has made several changes to the way AirTags work since their release to address concerns about trackers. Apple announced a suite of changes in February regarding stocking concerns, with some changes coming to iOS 15.4 in March and others later.

One of those changes later included the use of a louder tone in the tone sequence played by an unknown AirTag to help it be more easily locating, and it appears that this What’s included in the week’s firmware update.

Tuning airtag sound: Currently, iOS users receiving unwanted tracking alerts can play a sound to help them find unknown AirTag. We’ll adjust the tone sequence to use the loudest tone to make the unknown AirTag more easily discoverable.

While not mentioned in the release notes, Apple is rolling out this firmware on a staggered basis, and there is no way to force your Airtags to update. The update was being distributed to 1% of AirTag users as of Tuesday, when it began rolling out, which will increase to 10% on May 3 and 25% on May 9, and will go completely live to everyone on May 13.
