Final Fantasy 16 is in the final stages of development

Surprise announced in 2020, during the PS5 games showcase, many thought that Final Fantasy 16 would not see the light for a long time. Over the last few hours, however, executive producer Naoki Yoshida has stated that the title is in the final stages of production.

Yoshida’s revelations on the state of development of Final Fantasy 16 came during an interview with Uniqlo Magazine, granted for the celebrations and collaboration with the clothing brand for the thirty-five years of the series. “Currently, the development of the game is in its final stage,” said Yoshida. As a single player game, we aim to integrate the story and gameplay even more deeply, the words of the producer.

Now, Yoshida’s words they don’t mean the game is ready for a launch by now soon on the market. But surely they reassure the fans: many were in fact convinced that Final Fantasy 16 would have experienced a much longer gestation period, a bit like what happened with the previous chapters, which debuted several years after the reveal. Considering that the title has now entered the final phase of development, a possible release by 2024 no longer appears as an unrealistic scenario.

Clearly, at least in the current state, we can not help but trace hypotheses. But surely this is excellent news, especially if we think back to the statements of the past months, where Yoshida stated that the title had been internally postponed for at least six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now we just have to wait for any communications regarding a launch window, which could arrive by the end of the year, and who knows that the Summer of Gaming will not bring us a new trailer and even some gameplay as a gift.
