Has an iPhone 13 touched you on Instagram? You are not the only one, it is a massive scam

During the weekend there was a wave of mentions on Instagram that invited to participate in the promotion of a free iPhone 13. With a massive reach that ended up splashing a good part of the Spanish users, the promotion hides a dangerous scam that invites you to enter the card data to access the alleged iPhone 13 for 1.99 euros. Be very careful not to fall into the trap.

You should always question any advertisement, story or publication that promises to sell expensive devices at bargain prices, even if the text invites you to participate in contests where the prize is as attractive as an iPhone 13. It is true that there are raffles reliable, the problem comes when try to entice us with perks that seem too good to be true. Most likely they are not.

A label with which to win an iPhone 13

One of the hook accounts that promoted the scam

Social networks today were full of allusions to a wave of mentions, all with a similar mechanic: “Have you been tagged in the photo? Congratulations, you have won an iPhone 13“. Under this title there is a supposed promotion/raffle with which the phone can be purchased at a ridiculous price, only 1.99 euros. All false.

The movement hides a dangerous scam where, at the end of the participation process, it is essential to send the data of the bank card in order to pay the supposed 1.99 euros that the iPhone 13 of the promotion costs. We have followed all the steps and we can conclude that there is no iPhone 13 anywhere, but a clear attempt to steal bank details with a non-existent promise.

The mechanism is based on an Instagram account that has been posting photos for less than a day: clic_.ee. Said account was publishing photographs of different iPhone 13 with a invitation to Instagram users to be tagged in them so that they could win the mobile in the image. The tagging ended up reaching a large part of people, we ourselves had several of those notices in our application.

Iphone 13 Scam Personal and bank details, be careful when filling out these forms. iPhone captures

The Instagram account link leads to a supposed sweepstakes page that, through a survey, promises to lower the price of the iPhone 13 to only 1.99 euros. The supposed promotion has a sufficiently credible interface, it even has fake comments (and a comment form that doesn’t work). Once the survey is completed, the page leads to a personal data form that, after filling it out, asks for the bank card details to obtain the prize.

The domains acquired to host the alleged promotions and forms are too recent, their data is hidden and the country where they registered was Iceland. The texts are very well adapted to Spanish and the style of the interface is credible, It shows that it is a well matured scam. And that it will surely vary over time in order to deceive more people.

Beware of too good promises

The recent wave of tagged to win an iPhone 13 is one more straw in an internet that is riddled with scam attempts. As we usually recommend, you should never trust what comes through social networks and messaging, especially if the hook is too good to be true. Most likely it is not.

If you were also tagged in Instagram posts, our recommendation is that report accounts to be blocked. And if you know someone who also received the label, it is best to tell them that it is a scam.
