Share documents with anyone using iCloud Drive

You’ve been able to share and collaborate on iWork documents for a while, but iPhones, iPads, and Macs can share and collaborate on documents in real time, directly through iCloud Drive. See here how it works.

note: iCloud Drive is found inside the Files app on iPhone and iPad.

How to Share Documents for Collaboration in iCloud Drive

You can share a document with anyone else who uses iCloud and the same app on an iPhone or any Apple device. You can even invite someone to collaborate on those documents without having to open the native app directly.

How to Share Documents for Collaboration on iPhone or iPad

  1. launch Files App on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap icloud drive,

  3. tap folder For which you would like to select the document.

    Share a document: Open Files, then tap iCloud Drive, then select a folderSource: iMore

  4. Tap choosing in the upper right corner.
  5. tap document on which you would like to collaborate.

  6. tap share icon,

  7. Tap share file in the share sheet.
  8. choose how you want to invite to cooperate with others.
  9. log in Contact Ajay,

  10. Tap Send to send invitations.

Mac. But how to share documents for collaboration?

  1. launch a finder window on your Mac.
  2. choosing icloud drive from your sidebar.
  3. open folder containing the document you want to collaborate on.

  4. Right or Control + a . click on document on which you would like to collaborate.

    Click on iCloud Drive, then select a folder, then right click on the fileSource: iMore

  5. click on share from the drop down menu.

  6. click on share file,

  7. choose how you want to invite to cooperate with others.
  8. log in Contact Ajay,

  9. Tap Send to send invitations.

How to Adjust Permissions for a Document in iCloud Drive

You may want to allow some people to make changes to the document, while only allowing others to view the document. You can adjust your permissions per person or for everyone.



How to Adjust Permissions for a Document on Your iPhone and iPad

  1. launch Files App on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap icloud drive,

  3. tap folder containing the desired documents.

    Adjust permissions: Open Files, then tap iCloud Drive, then select a folderSource: iMore

  4. Tap choosing in the upper right corner.
  5. tap document For which you will want to adjust the permissions.

  6. tap share icon,

    Adjust permissions: Tap Select, then select a file, then tap the Share iconSource: iMore

  7. Tap Manage Shared Files in the share sheet.
  8. Tap share options To change permissions for everyone
  9. tap Contact Ajay To change the share permission for an individual.

  10. tap permission settings,

    Adjust permissions: Tap Manage shared file, then tap Share or select a contactSource: iMore

How to adjust permissions for a document on your Mac

  1. launch a finder window on your Mac.
  2. choosing icloud drive from your sidebar.
  3. open folder Which contains the document you want to select.

  4. Right- or Control-click document For which you want to change the permissions.

  5. click on share from the drop down menu.

  6. click on Manage Shared Files,

  7. click on share options To change permissions for everyone
  8. select a Contact Ajay and click on more icons To change the share permission for an individual. It looks like three white dots.

  9. select the permission settings,

    Adjust permissions: Click the Share option or More button next to a contact, choose PermissionsSource: iMore

How to Remove Someone from Collaborating on a Document in iCloud Drive

If you no longer want to collaborate with someone on a document, you don’t even need to open the native app to not invite collaborators. In iOS 11 and up, you can only do this from iCloud Drive.

How to Remove Someone from Collaborating on a Document on iPhone and iPad

  1. launch Files App on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap icloud drive,

  3. tap folder which contains the document you want to modify.

    Open iCloud Drive. Open Files, then tap iCloud Drive, then select a folder.Source: iMore

  4. Tap choosing in the upper right corner.
  5. tap document You no longer want to cooperate.

  6. tap share icon,

    Select and share: Tap Select, then select a file, then tap the Share iconSource: iMore

  7. Tap Manage Shared Files in the share sheet.
  8. tap Contact Ajay You want to remove the collaboration.
  9. Tap remove access,

  10. Tap Ok,

    Tap Manage Shared Files, then select Contacts, then tap Remove Access.Source: iMore

If you’re collaborating on a document with more than one person and want to remove access for everyone, you can tap stop sharing Below the invitation list.

How to remove someone from collaborating with a document on your Mac?

  1. launch a finder window on your Mac.
  2. choosing icloud drive from your sidebar.
  3. open folder which contains the document you want to modify.

  4. Right- or Control-click document on which you no longer wish to cooperate.

  8. click on More button next to Contacts. It looks like three white dots.
  9. click on remove access,

  10. click on complete,

    Click the More button next to the contact, then click Remove accessSource: iMore

iCloud Drive is the simplest, most convenient way to share files and keep them updated among family and friends. They will always be up to date on the cloud, so everyone sees the latest version. This works for any type of document, file, or image on iCloud Drive.
