(pocket-lint) – One of the big days of online sales is Amazon Prime Day. It’s held in the middle of the year and sees Amazon slashing prices across a wide range of stocks — including mobile phones.
This often provides an opportunity to get handsets at low prices and the past years have given a lot of devices to get excited about.
Here’s everything you need to know about the phone deals you can expect on Prime Day of 2022.
When is Prime Day 2022?
This is a closely guarded secret of the Amazon. Over the years we have seen the date spin. In 2019 it was 15 July, in 2020 it was 13-14 October and in 2021 it was 21-22 June. However, it has been confirmed that Prime Day will be held in July 2022 – and we expect it to happen in the middle of the month – probably July 12 or 19.
Prime Day sales are a natural counterpoint to Black Friday sales and give Amazon a chance to go over stock in mid-year sales and give you a chance to snag the deal.
Which devices will get discount on Prime Day?
Discounts are usually available at many manufacturers including Apple, Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus and others.
If you’re looking for an iPhone deal you might be in luck – with Prime Day approaching nearly 9 months after the iPhone 13’s launch, it’s likely it will be included in the sale, but likely to be at a big discount. Chances are the older iPhone 12. As there isn’t a huge difference between these devices, smart buyers might want to snap up the 2020 iPhone instead of the latest model.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 family in early 2022 and if previous years are anything to go by, Prime Day would be a great time to get discounts on some of those latest models – we’ve rounded up the S21 Ultra’s price for £245 have seen less. With 2021 and Samsung it’s definitely worth waiting to buy if you want the best deals. OnePlus also often offers discounts, as does Oppo.

Are there real deals on Prime Day?
You need to shop carefully on Prime Day. While some of the quoted discounts may be questionable, the prices offered are usually competitive. Often, these will be around the lowest these phones have been offered for, but they may have seen similar prices in past sales, for example around Black Friday.
Prices fluctuate occasionally and it’s important to keep your eye on when Prime Day actually starts, as it’s a short event and you usually only have 24 hours to shop, because Those devices will be back at full retail price.
Do I need to become a Prime member?
Yes – that’s the catch with Amazon Prime Day – it’s a special sales event for Prime customers. That means you’ll need to get yourself Amazon Prime to get access to the best prices back in the day.
