Samsung’s latest tablet sounds straight from 2020

Meet the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 — same, but different, but still the same

Android tablets don’t have the easiest way of things. Even as many OEMs gave up on making tablets, Samsung remained strong with its Galaxy Tab lineup — and earned a well-deserved reputation as the only serious Android-based competition for the iPad. Now tablets are finally getting the attention they deserve thanks to the upcoming launch of Pixel tablets alongside Android 12L (and soon, Android 13). We’ve got a long time to wait before anyone gets here, but this week Samsung is keeping things interesting with its own “new” tablet: a refresh of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

Samsung’s new take on that 2020 model quietly popped up on Amazon Italy (via SamMobile) without any major announcements or fanfare from Samsung. But don’t let the familiar name fool you—there are actually a few differences you’ll want to know about that can make it a worthwhile purchase.

First, the 10nm Exynos 9611 chip inside the original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is being swapped out for the faster and more efficient Snapdragon 720G. Apps often perform slightly better on Snapdragon silicon, and the chip should allow for significant performance improvements on the table — even if this component is still coming in two years of age.

Samsung is shipping the new Tab S6 Lite with Android 12-based One UI 4.1. As a refresher, the original model launched with Android 10, and is currently upgradeable to Android 12, with only one major version (Android 13) moving to a security-update-only scheme. First and eventually will go up. , reaches EOL. In the meantime, if Samsung’s latest Android update fulfills the promise, this new tablet should be good all the way up to Android 16 (and if for some reason it gets stuck with the same update policy as its old twin, that’s it). This will still bring us to Android 15).

If you want to grab one, there’s an Amazon Italy pre-order listing going for €400. It wasn’t “available” last time we checked, but you might have better luck than us. Hopefully Samsung will confirm this soon and let us know about plans for other markets.
