Twitch angers streamers and YouTube reacts: its new gift and subscription system will arrive soon

Twitch has reduced the commission that streamers take, and YouTube has seen the perfect window of action to act.

Twitch is undoubtedly the great benchmark for streaming services, but that could change soon. Facebook tried long ago to take down Twitch from the throne, without much success, but in the end the Amazon platform has dug its own grave. Some time ago the company announced your new streamer payout policyin which it considerably cut the benefits that content creators received from the app.

Youtube launches a system of subscriptions and gifts very similar to that of Twitch

Until now, the streamer took 70% of the channel’s income in subscriptions, but Twitch has put scissors and now it’s only 50%. Many streamers complained about these measures, especially those considered “medium”, who with this change could lose the opportunity to live from streaming. For those users, and others interested in the world of streaming, YouTube will soon update its live video tool.

Many disgruntled streamers may prefer to switch platforms

Youtube has designed a new subscriber system for its Youtube Live tool, very similar in fact to how it works on Twitch. Users and viewers now they will be able to donate to their trusted streamer using a native tool and without the need to leave the Google environment. Donations or “gifts” can be made to members of the community, in packs of 5, 10 and 20 subscriptions. Of course you can subscribe individually to the channels if you prefer, as explained on YouTube:

Viewers who receive a gift membership get 1 month of access to channel membership benefits, and exclusive content like loyalty badges, custom emojis and more. Viewers who receive gift memberships do not pay any fees, and as the creator, the streamer receives their usual share of revenue from each transaction.”

At the moment YouTube takes 30% of the subscriptions, which is the same as Twitch before the change. Now it is obviously more profitable to be a streamer on YouTubebut migrating the audience from one platform to another is not an easy task.

The system is now available in its Beta version for a selected group of streamers, so we will have to wait to analyze the reception among the public. For now, YouTube has already caught the attention of big names in the world of streaming such as DrLupo, TimTheTatman or Ludwig, and has even signed an exclusivity agreement with Sykkuno.

Although these streamers move from platform to platform, it does not mean that YouTube is going to hit the ball. It’s happened before big streamers have seen a massive decrease in your audience when you switch platforms. Despite the millionaire agreements, many of them have returned to Twitch to regain audience. However, with the new cuts in the platform, going back may not be an option.
