YouTube app gets more shortcuts for jumping from music videos to YouTube Music

In case you forgot, the YouTube Music app does videos too

YouTube Music and the entire YouTube experience are linked together. You can play your YouTube-based playlists on the Music app and anything you like on one app will affect your recommendations on the other. And while the YTM covers most listening needs even with the feature to watch music videos without logging in to the full app we typically watch music videos on the full YouTube app anyway. But if you’ve ever wanted to quickly switch to YouTube Music while watching a music video, Google has added more shortcuts for you to do so.

As spotted by 9to5Google, when watching a music video on YouTube, if the song is available on YouTube Music in audio-only format, you’ll be prompted to go to the app immediately. The shortcut is located to the left of the Autoplay toggle, inside the player’s view, and will be as clearly noticeable as it is the full YouTube Music icon. Tapping on it will start playing the song you are listening to inside YTM. There’s also a similar toggle just below the “Watch in VR” option in the video’s settings overflow screen.

These two new shortcuts include the existing “Want audio only?” Suggestion banner that also opens in some music videos. It remains the most noticeable shortcut because it’s the big, bright blue button that appears at the bottom of the video viewport. In our testing, though, it doesn’t show up for every music videomuch like the drummer disappears on shoot days. Hey – while these new shortcuts actually do.

This change is currently rolling out in the Android app, but it may take a few weeks for everyone to see it. If you want to see it for yourself, make sure your app is fully updated.
