I’ve used the Logitech MX Master 3 as my primary productivity mouse since it came out in 2019. I’ve tested dozens of mice since then, but none have had as much programmable buttons, advanced wireless capabilities, multi-device controls, and long-term comfort as the MX Master 3. Today, Logitech released a new version, the MX Master 3S.

This wireless mouse follows in the Master 3’s footsteps of excellence, but doesn’t offer enough improvement to finish my MX Master 3 and revamp my wallet.

As you might have guessed from the mild moniker modification, the 3S is a little different from the 3. The new mouse has cool left- and right-click buttons, and supports high sensitivity, so your cursor can move with less physical mouse motion. -And all.

While the tech enthusiast in me would love to see innovation in design and feature set, the MX Master 3S didn’t require many changes from the predecessor to be the ultimate power mouse. Now, it’s a bit more future-proof for an 8K or other 4K monitor.

cool click

The difference became immediately apparent when Logitech followed up the MX Master 2S with the MX Master 3. But the lightly upgraded 3S looks identical to the 3, except for the white color option, but once I started clicking, the disparity was apparent.

Clicking on the 3S produces a soft thud, followed by a quiet noise as the button pops back up. Those sounds are reportedly 90 percent softer than the clicks you hear when the 3’s left- or right-click button is held down and reset. A Logitech representative told me that the company couldn’t use these cool buttons before because they weren’t confirmed to last 10 million clicks.

The MX Master 3’s audible click didn’t bother me at first. I felt as though they emphasized my clicks, which made them feel fast and accurate, but a bit more tedious than similar buttons on other mice like the gaming-geared wireless Alienware AW720M.

However, the 3S’s primary click buttons don’t feel more flashy or flattering than those of the 3. They still have a clear amount of travel, so I can tell when I’m down, and they return fast. The mouse still has zippy clicks without the noise to prove it.

Extra sensitive for 4K and above

From 4K to 8K screens and multi-monitor setups, we often find ourselves tempted to overdo, multi-task, and keep track of projects across multiple pixels. With an optical sensor supporting a larger sensitivity range than ever before, the MX Master 3S makes it so you don’t have to move your arm as much to move your mouse over your dual 4K setup… You just have to be fine with a more sensitive mouse.
