When Riot Games decided to explore new ways of telling themselves, many didn’t see the master plan for its expansion. In fact, with the differentiation of its products it has managed to expand the audience even more and with the TFT experiment launched during the period of auto chess it has certainly managed to secure a large section of a completely new audience that would not even have tried to get close to the MOBA of the Riot house. Legends of Runeterra, on the other hand, is another piece that over the last few years has shown that it can keep itself on its feet thanks to a solid community of players who finds it qualitatively satisfying to play the card game with their favorite characters.
Riot Games has almost never had problems with creativity and the amount of champions, so different from each other that you see in League of Legends is certainly an important fact. This added value of the company can also be found within its card game, which seems to be increasingly evolving, with more expansions under its belt and with unique game modes and unique ideas.
Speaking of the expansions, in these days we have had the opportunity to try it in preview the one arriving on May 25th or “Wanderers of the Worlds”, known by the international public as “Worldwalker“. This latest expansion will bring with it many new features, not only in terms of the number of cards that will be added, but also for all the new features that will be added to improve the user experience and try to make the game much more user friendly.
Playing Legends of Runeterra alone has been possible for a long time now, also thanks to the “Path of the heroes”, a PvE adventure built around the champions available within the game. With “Wanderers of the Worlds”, we will have a 2.0 version of this mode which will bring with it structural innovations, and above all in the way in which the regions are dealt with. If it is true that these modes also allow you to access more and more new players, because if taken in certain ways they also serve as a bit of a tutorial before throwing yourself into the fray of the online, at the moment Riot is not willing to add to this mode no type of monetization. Definitely a very respectable choice, especially if you think of other titles of this type.
The primary focus of the developers is make the game clear and balancedabove all in terms of mechanics, without having to insert monetization mechanics inside the loop both for the purchase of “extras” but also to enhance your sample.
The main novelty of this Path of Champions 2.0 will in fact be on the champions that we are going to check throughout our adventure. In this new update we will in fact have a complete roster on which to rely and search defeat opponent after opponentnot only to acquire the rewards, but also to level and unlock new upgrades for our protagonist of the adventure.
Legends of Runeterra
Here too, in fact, we find a novelty, it has in fact been introduced a new level for our sample card. The “Legend” will in fact allow us to have more powers and also have the opportunity to team up with other cards of this level and wreak havoc in the entire world of Runeterra. In this regard, in fact, the desire to want to enhance this mode is entirely on the part of the developers. Legends of Runeterra is a card game, but Riot knows how much its players are also attached to the characters and especially to the Lore that is being built within the game world.
Especially after the release of Arcane the catchment area has increased a lot, and as mentioned at the beginning of this article, Riot now has a real mythology available to rely on. And it is precisely here that almost all of the new ideas which can be found within the “Heroes Walk”. If the absolute protagonist seems to be the addition of Jhin’s card, here, however, he is joined by other champions who are ready to take the throne of the favorite card of many players, not only for their influence within the game meta , but also how the new mechanics were introduced.
Legends of Runeterra
The synergies created with the new keywords are in fact many, which obviously go to join the many old game mechanics. Over the past few days, Riot has already launched an approach campaign not only through its social networks, but also thanks to some partners who have had access to many new cards that can be found at the intent of this expansion. Not just champions, but also new spells for to be able to synergize at best with the new additions.
Among the champions added in Legends of Runeterra “Wanderers of the Worlds”, we find Annie, Ilaoi, Bard and above all the long-awaited Jinh, the undisputed protagonist of the teaser trailer of the expansion. This new champion brings with it one of the most important keywords of this new expansion. In fact, starting next May 25th, a new region of origin of the cards will not be introduced, but simply there will be the keyword “Origin”Which will allow our card to take the region of the other cards of our deck at will.
The other champion to have this same characteristic will be Bard, and together they will be labeled as champions of Runeterra, with keyword origin. The possibilities at this point will become infinite, not only for how they can be inserted in previously built decks, but above all by creating new ones, also taking advantage of the second keyword introduced with our favorite bard.
Legends of Runeterra
With Bard will be added, as you can imagine, also his “Bells” that will bring with them too mechanics of “Gifts”, or traps that will bind to other cards in our deck, and which will activate as soon as we draw them. And it is precisely this mechanic that really amazed us, especially for the amount of interesting combos that it is possible to do. The screen above in fact shows a combo, made with a deck composed of Fizz / Bard. In short, not a small thing.
Last but not least is the keyword that will be added with Ilaoi, or “Generate”. In fact, it will allow you to have access to a new type of cards or the Tentacles. They will spawn inside the board and allow two different gameplay situations. If at the moment of activation we have no active tentacle, then we will have control of a 1/1 tentacle. If, on the other hand, we already have a tentacle on the board, it will have a + 1 / + 1 boost to the statistics. Again, this is a mechanic that could synergize very well with spell cards introduced within World Wanderers.
Legends of Runeterra
This new expansion will almost certainly bring a breath of fresh air to the Legends of Runeterra card game. With a completely revamped PvE mode, Riot’s intent is to get even closer many new players, who may not have experience with card games of this type. With an adventure mode that can act as an “introduction” to understand the mechanics and study the combos, the game will surely have a different learning curve than in the past. Obviously with all the cards that will be added starting from May 25th, it will be even more difficult to find your own style of playbut if you want a starting point to be able to play the game, then surely the release of a new expansion is definitely the right time to jump on the train.
