CD Projekt says “the bulk of our growth potential” is now focused on expanding Cyberpunk 2077

As part of its latest earnings report, CD Projekt has shared a revised breakdown of the projects currently occupying the studio’s time, confirming the development potential of its “bulk” now focused on Cyberpunk 2077 story detail, Which is still expected to be launched next year.

Following the disastrous release of Cyberpunk in late 2020, most of CD Projekt’s development resources (as shown in the chart below) were focused on addressing the game’s most pressing issues. At the same time, a small team was working on its next generation release, the project’s launch promised long before the crisis, and a smaller group was doing preliminary work on its paid expansion.

Inevitably, those numbers have changed significantly over time for example, less than half of CD Projekt’s development staff were working on Cyberpunk’s base game and next-gen updates as of June last year and the trend continues. Surprisingly, it continues. As of today’s financial results, Cyberpunk 2077 support has decreased “significantly” following the release of its next-gen update (which CD Projekt says “had a positive impact on the game’s perception and sales figures”). “with bulk” [the studio’s] Growth potential” is now working on its expansion.

Beyond the size of its fluctuating team, CD Projekt has shared little information about the upcoming expansion of Cyberpunk 2077. However, a new VGC report claims to reveal more details based on “hundreds” of lines of leaked detail dialogue seen by the website. These clearly point to a new destination in the form of the Combat Zone (an area of the Pacific region), an opportunity for the game to move into the currently inaccessible Sports Dome area, as well as a focus on Songbird, which Is a character from the original release.

Away from Cyberpunk, CD Projekt has confirmed that development is ongoing on unspecified Gwent Projects (the developer has previously revealed a new spin-off), as well as this year’s long-awaited Witcher 3 next-gen version. Other projects” including its new Witcher game, as well as whatever projects the studio acquisitions Spokeo and The Molasses Flood have.
