Switching phone brands? You’re probably picking up an iPhone

Apple continues to dominate the minds of people switching between brands of phones this year, according to a new Wave7 survey by US mobile phone retail reps.

When 37 reps were asked which producer was getting the “lion’s share” [OEM] Switchers,” 73% said Apple and 16% Samsung, according to the analysis firm’s May report. Some of Samsung’s “switchers” aren’t even platform switchers, as reps include refugees from LG’s doomed mobile phone business in the Samsung swarm. Were. .

However, the results were ambiguous when Wave7 asked different questions. When asked by reps whether they’ve seen more people switching from Apple to Android or vice versa, 51% said the switching was “almost too.”

The report didn’t speculate on why these results would be different, but I think it’s probably about brand awareness. People switching to iPhones are very aware that they are buying an Apple, while those switching to Android may think they are buying “an Android”.

Google’s own brand is not benefiting from this halo, however, with only one store representative mentioning that people are switching to Google to get Pixel phones.

According to a Wave7 report, Apple’s overall market share is down slightly among the three carriers this month, but not in a meaningful way. The report said that in Verizon, sales of the iPhone 13 model are increasing and sales of the iPhone 13 Pro Max are down.

Overall, however, there isn’t much movement between platforms in the US market such that there aren’t wild variations in OEM market share.

“Some reps commented that there are too few switchers, people sticking to what they know,” the report said.
