Apple hikes Apple Music price for students in US, Canada and UK

Apple has increased the monthly fee for US-based students using Apple Music.

Spotted by AppleInsider, the price increase means that students in the US will now be charged $5.99 per month for the streaming service, which marks a $1 increase.

The change hasn’t been officially announced by Apple, but appears to have been added to its website on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Student fees for Apple Music have also been increased by the same amount in Canada and the UK, and last month’s price increase for the streaming service in other markets including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Kenya, Israel, Singapore. has been followed. , and Saudi Arabia.

At the time, Apple sent an email to student customers informing them of the monthly fee increase. It’s not clear whether it has sent a similar email to Apple Music student customers in the US, Canada and the UK yet

In addition to the $4.99 per month Limited Voice plan for Apple Music, students still get the best rates for Apple’s music streaming service. Optional tiers include Personal, which costs $9.99 per month, and Family, which provides unlimited access for up to six people for $14.99 per month.

Students looking for a free music streaming service can try out Spotify’s ad-supported tier, although it does come with limitations. Listening on mobile, for example, includes a random track selection from the songs you like, rather than allowing you to make your own, although the desktop version of Spotify lets you freely choose what you listen to. For something similar to Apple Music in terms of features, Spotify charges students $4.99 a month, a dollar less than Apple Music’s equivalent offering, and half the price of Spotify’s premium service.
