What’s new in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2: No buildings, new overshields, and more

After a jarringly quiet lead up to its launch, Fortnite Season 2 has arrived. Season 2: The Resistance sees the Imagined Order complete its return to the island, using massive drills to break through the terrain and a bevy of soldiers ready to take Artemis back from The Seven taken off. We’ve got a full breakdown of Season 2’s new weapons, new vehicles, gameplay changes, new Battle Pass heroes — including Doctor Strange — and more. Here’s your full overview of Fortnite Season 2.

No buildings, new overshields, and more

Surprisingly, Fortnite Season 2 has launched without any build mechanics. That’s right, you won’t be able to knock down a wall when there’s a fire – at least not yet. According to Dataminers, Building will be back in the game on March 29, but that means that for a little more than a week, you’ll be left to fend for yourself without Bild’s help.

To counter this, however, new gameplay mechanics have been introduced. This includes a new tactical sprint – which is used in bursts, but is faster than regular sprinting – as well as other boons such as an overshield for timed kills, and a new vaulting mechanic. Since you can’t make it to the ceiling, now you can climb there by hand.

For now, the mod is considered LTM, but should it prove popular, we expect Epic to consider keeping it a part of the game going forward. For now though, it’s front and center, so get out there and fight without the walls, ramps, or ’90s cranking – see if you can still touch up your victory royale without channeling your inner construction warrior .
