Red Magic 8 Pro and Red Magic 8 Pro+ with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 announced

ZTE announced new Red Magic gaming smartphones under its nubia brand. Its about Red Magic 8 Pro and of the Red Magic 8 Pro+both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and with minimal differences between them, which essentially lie in their different battery capacities and charging power.

The Red Magic 8 Pro and the Red Magic 8 Pro+ share both the design and the chipset, cameras, and other features, also marking differences in the RAM and storage options available.

So, for both smartphones we find a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate with touch sampling up to 960Hz. The 16MP selfie camera is hidden under the AMOLED panel, so we have a screen without interruptions.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is complemented by a Red Magic R2 chip that enhances gaming effects, including color interference, vibration feedback, colors, and touch sensitivity.

Both versions of the Red Magic 8 Pro keep the processor at a stable temperature thanks to a set of actions grouped under ICE 11.0 technology that include graphite layers, and a high-capacity vapor chamber, as well as an integrated fan that reaches 20,000 revolutions per minute. .

On the back of the smartphones we find a set of three cameras. The main sensor is a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN5, followed by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. On the right side we find two touch triggers with 520 Hz sampling to be used in games.

Finally we come to the differences. The Red Magic 8 Pro has a set of eight cells that total a capacity of 6000 mAh for its battery, allowing efficient heat dissipation management. In this case, the charging power is 80W, which translates into a charge from 0 to 100% in just 35 minutes.

The Red Magic Pro+ on the other hand boosts the charging power to 165W, but shrinks the battery to a capacity of 5000 mAh, leaving enough space to manage such charging power with protection and distribution.

Announced in China, both smartphones are available for pre-order and will hit the market on December 28. The Red Magic 8 Pro, available in black with 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB memory combinations starts at $570.

The Red Magic 8 Pro+ with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage is priced starting at $750 for its most basic variant.
