Android 14 will bring several new features, but there is one that I would even pay for: the new volume management

That Android 14 is not going to be the most revolutionary update in recent years is a reality that we are already seeing in its betas. However, in my personal case I look forward to a novelty that is as simple as it is practical. And that, I know, I’m not the only one waiting for it.

It is neither more nor less than a historical request and that the big ‘G’ (praise you, Google) will comply with this new update: differentiate, really, the volume of notifications, calls and multimedia. Simple, but necessary. She was already playing.

Giving up WhatsApp notifications will no longer also mean losing calls

That an operating system evolves to visual and functional effects is something that always attracts me and, I think, the majority too. Something like this was already experienced with Android 12 and continued with Android 13. However, I recognize that In the long run, I value day-to-day utilities more than aesthetic changes.no matter how deep and attractive they are.

And in this the new Android 14 volume manager will help. Until now, we could manage the volume of calls and notifications on the one hand, having the multimedia volume on the other. However, years ago it looked a bit behind. And it is that we meet many situations in which we want to be aware of a call, but not of the app notifications. And although we can configure the ‘Do not disturb’ mode for this, it is not always the most practical.

We cannot deny that a conversation through WhatsApp can be very important, but not in most cases and not as much as when we receive a call. Hence, being able to play with the volume of both announcements is essential. A detail, yes, but extremely useful.

New volume settings in Android 14

Although there was a time when this function could be activated even in Android 13 through ADB, currently not possible. Therefore, we will have to wait for Android 14 to arrive to be able to have it without having to tinker with the system, since it is found in the sound settings and also when touching the volume buttons.

This is how Android will complain when you install an app from one store and try to update it from another

Along with this novelty, Android 14 will incorporate many others. And although this is my favorite, there is more. See as an example the new preview gesture when going back. In addition to the fact that we do not lose sight of other improvements announced at Google I / O 2023, since many are not even in beta yet. We also do not forget the possible integrations of AI in Android for this version and that are already an open secret.

except surprise, It is possible that we are a few weeks away from seeing Android 14 officially. Last year, Android 13 arrived in mid-August. And although at first it is only on Pixel phones, it does not seem that it will take long to reach the customization layers of manufacturers such as Samsung or Xiaomi.
