PM Modi’s call for ‘cashless day out’; Welcomes the expansion of digital payments footprint

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his latest edition of the monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday lauded the “incredible expansion” of India’s online transaction footprint. He asked his listeners to experiment with “cashless day out” using only digital mode for payment.

The Prime Minister said that digital transactions worth Rs 20,000 crore are now taking place in the country every day and added that this is not only adding to the facilities but also encouraging an environment of honesty.

On ‘Mann Ki Baat’ he said, “Your experiences can be a source of inspiration for others in the country.” The Prime Minister also said that small online payments are helping to create a bigger digital economy in India. In addition, there are many new fintech start-ups coming up, he underlined.

He also lauded the growing number of online payments and said, “Now, digital transactions worth 20,000 crore are taking place in our country every day.” “In March, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions reached Rs 10 lakh crore,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that this is not only increasing the facilities in the country but also promoting an atmosphere of honesty.

Unified Payments Interface is an instant real-time payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India that facilitates inter-bank peer-to-peer and person-to-merchant transactions.

‘Mann Ki Baat’ is a monthly radio program in which he talks about new topics in every episode. It is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am on the official All India Radio and Doordarshan television channel.

Mann Ki Baat is streamed live on all social media platforms of PM Modi as well as PMO.
