Jack Dorsey says he will never be CEO of Twitter again

Jack Dorsey is trying to quash rumors that he will be reinstated as Twitter CEO after Elon Musk takes over. On Wednesday, he tweeted, “No, I’ll never be CEO again” before someone predicted he would return to lead the company he co-founded. going to say that he does not want the role.

in another responseDorsey says that “no one will eventually” be the CEO of Twitter, perhaps referring to Bluesky, a project to turn Twitter into a decentralized protocol rather than a traditional social network.

Dorsey has a controversial history with a leadership role on Twitter. The company’s board fired him from his role as CEO in 2008, two years after helping start the company (though he remained on the board). He returned to the chief executive position in 2015 after going through two other Twitter CEOs, but in 2020, a group of investors on Twitter’s board began trying to replace him. He cited their divided focus and lack of innovation, but Dorsey managed to hang on to his job. But in November 2021, he stepped down for reasons that are not entirely clear.

After Dorsey’s departure, Parag Agarwal took over as the CEO of Twitter. At this point, though, it looks like he won’t be around for long. Elon Musk is set to buy the company and take it private (a saga that began with him only looking to become a member of the board, then dropped out of the deal), and it is rumored that if the deal is indeed If so, he will serve as the temporary CEO. It is closed at. But Musk is a busy man he’s got SpaceX and Tesla to run, so it looks like he’s going to want to find someone else to take over.

It made sense that people thought Jack might be Elon’s choice. Dorsey has lately talking Some a type of ship on twitter About Twitter, it seems, isn’t particularly happy with the direction of the company (though he has indulged in enough positive tweets to get us guessing). He also seems to agree with Musk on at least some points related to the future of Twitter.

Alas, it looks like Jack is done with being CEO, saying that “It’s time to roll the dice again.”

Oh, and in case you were wondering “Wait, isn’t he still the CEO of Square? I mean Block?” The answer is… a little. Last month, Block announced that Dorsey’s new title at the company would be “Block Head.” According to a document sent to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, he requested a change of title. No wonder people thought he would be a perfect fit to run “technoking” Elon Musk’s Twitter.
