The solar-powered Model 3 circumnavigates Australia

The advent of electric mobility is teaching us to think about cars, and in general about means of transport, in a different way than in the last century and today there are those who dream of giving life to a car capable of move and recharge simply with thesolar power: we have not yet reached that point, the technology is not yet at that level, but there are those who think of interesting solutions to demonstrate the practical capabilities of electric vehicles, such as theNewcastle University in Australiawho decided to give life to the project “Charge Around Australia“.

On board a Tesla Model 3the Charge Around Australia team will travel the entire perimeter of the immense island – ben 15,095 kilometers – traveling only with electricity recharged via solar panels. The panels, which obviously are not directly installed on the car as we have seen in other cases, are very particular and being flexible they can be folded and stored in the trunk of the carto then unfold them and put them in the sun when there is a need to recharge the car.

This is certainly a fascinating and also relatively inexpensive solution, in fact the panel barely costs $ 10 per square meter and in this case it is almost 20 meters long.

Charge Around Australia’s Tesla Model 3 will tour the country, visiting schools for raise awareness among young people on the issue of ecology and environmental problems, and according to the calculations of those who are preparing the project – starting next September, at the beginning of the hot season in Australia – it should take about 84 days.

Today, solar panel technology is not yet sufficiently advanced to guarantee useful charging times for electric cars, but the idea of Charge Around Australia is still very fascinating and interesting – the idea of being energetically independent of everything and everyone, done except for the sun, it opens the doors to magnificent journeys to places far away from civilization.
