Star Wars: is there a problem of racism in Respawn Entertainment?

Hailed by all as one of the best Star Wars games, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order has recently ended up in the eye of the storm for some incidents of discrimination that would have occurred in the course of its development. Nora Shramek, who at the time held the role of lighter and tech artist within Respawn Entertainment, took them back.

For obvious reasons, comments and statements cannot be verified. Despite this, we invite you to maintain a civil tone in the comments to the news.

Nora Shramek’s words would showcase a non-inclusive development team. It all started when the team proposed to include a black character as the protagonist. The response from the upper floors was not long in coming. We already have two black people in the game, the words that would be spoken. Not only. Someone went ahead, stating that black-skinned people should have undergone a different treatment at the modeling stage. “I think all black people should have brighter skin, because in nature black people have more oily skin than other people.” A comment that obviously was not well accepted within the team.

As we all well know, in the end to interpret Cal Kestis (star of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order) was chosen Cameron Monaghan. When they told us the actor chosen for the lead role I thought ‘Heck, they chose the whitest of the males’, the words of Nora Shramek declared on her Twitter profile.

The accusations of discrimination and racism cannot, at least for now, be denied. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have not yet commented on this. We look forward to any clarification from the development team or the publisher. Keep following Tom’s Hardware for all the updates from the world of video games.
