iPhone 14 Pro Max to have thinner display bezels, new claims leaked

We’ve already seen a bunch of leaked iPhone 14 schematics that seem to confirm countless design rumours. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a different display design than the cheaper versions. Apple is moving towards hole-punch displays this year, but the notch isn’t quite as clean as that of replacement Android phones. The pill-and-hole design reappeared in an iPhone 14 Pro Max schematic leak that provides another interesting design detail related to the bezel.

Obviously, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have 20% thinner bezels than its predecessor. If this is true for the Pro Max, then the same change should happen in the iPhone 14 Pro.

Most iPhone 14 design rumors say that the iPhone 14 series will come in two sizes. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will have the same 6.1-inch displays as their predecessors. At the same time, the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a 6.7-inch screen.

We will note that the name of the iPhone 14 Max is not confirmed. But most people are calling the cheaper 6.7-inch iPhone a replacement for the “mini” model.

How Big is the iPhone 14 Pro Max?

Rumors suggest that the design of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will be similar to that of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. These will have the same notch, which is narrower in the iPhone 13 series. And the screens will also be of the same size.

Leaks says that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will not have a notch at the top. Instead, Apple will put a pill-shaped cutout next to a circular hole in the screen for the Face ID and FaceTime cameras and other sensors. This “new notch” will help Apple transition into a future where the iPhone gets its own hole-punch display. Or a true all-screen design.

That said, we recently reported on a strange iPhone 14 rumor. A report has claimed that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be taller than the non-Pro models. Increasing the height will help Apple adjust the screen cutout. However, the rumor did not point to different screen sizes for the Pro model.

This brings us to the brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max design schematics which help shed some light on the matter. Shaving 20% on the bezel looks impressive. But the bezel is already minimal on the iPhone 13. Unless the iPhone 14 Pro Max is sitting next to an iPhone 14 or older iPhone model, people may not notice the change.

New design leaks reveal thinner bezels

But if this leak is true, then the bezel of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is getting thinner. Posted on Twitter, the leaked iPhone 14 Pro Max schematics shared the new iPhone 14 Pro Max schematics, which states that the handset will have 1.95mm thick bezels. In comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has 2.42mm bezels.

It’s not a lot, but MacRumors Guess Apple is looking to shrink the bezels to have more screen space between the bezel and the pill-and-hole cutout. As per the iPhone 14 Pro Max schematics, it will sit 2.29mm below the top bezel.

If these claims are true, then the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a slightly larger screen surface than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. There will be a slight increase in both height and width. As a result the diagonal will also increase. But the increase will be minimal, to the point where Apple doesn’t want to accept it. That is to say, the display of the iPhone 14 Pro Max will probably be listed on the specs page as measuring 6.7-inches.

But, to go back to the old iPhone 14 Pro rumour, this schematic confirms claims that the more expensive phones will be slightly taller than the more affordable models.

If the iPhone 14 Pro Max schematic is accurate, we can assume that the iPhone 14 Pro will have the same bezel reduction. Especially if the new notch is responsible for this unexpected change in design.
