Here are some back tap tricks every iPhone user must know

iOS 15 introduced tons of exciting new features, including the new Safari UI, Focus Mode, Notification Summary, and more. However, there’s one feature you’ve probably overlooked, and it’s been around since iOS 14. Back Tap is a feature that adds an additional physical button to your iPhone that supports wireless charging (iPhone 8 or later).

When enabled, you can double- or triple-tap the back of your iPhone to launch one of a few dozen actions and gestures, as well as shortcuts. The Apple logo on the back of your iPhone becomes a secret button with a Back tap. Yes it’s true.

You can program the logo to take a screenshot whenever you double-tap it and load Shazam when you triple-tap it, for example, or call your partner like double and Make Siri the Shortest Route to Use as a Triple Tap. Here’s how to get back tapped up and running. These instructions were done using an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.4.

To return to the previous screen, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Go back.

Set up a custom function for such gestures by selecting Double Tap or Triple Tap. There are too many options for double or triple tap to list here.

To start, you can set any of your shortcuts to Back Tap, which opens up a ton of options.

Your Accessibility shortcut can also be launched with a back tap. It’s another option in the Accessibility menu that allows you to assign one (or more) accessibility features to begin with when you triple-click your phone’s side button. You can also attach these functionalities to the back tap if you wish, but you will have to do so individually.

Here’s how you can do it:

Go to Accessibility > Settings.

The Accessibility shortcut is located in the General section.

Select the options you want to assign the shortcut by tapping it.

The Two Back Tap shortcuts can be programmed in an infinite number of ways to perform activities that would normally take multiple taps. We’re not sure why Apple doesn’t promote it further. Fewer iPhone features are more useful.
