Starting from the work done recently by Threat Analysis Group (TAG) In the context of the war in Ukraine, where Google experts continuously monitor critical computer activities during the conflict, the Mountain View company has announced a series of measures on a large scale, to make everyday life even safer.

On Android smartphones the security status of the applications will warn users of the need to take new actions to protect their accounts: when it is necessary to update these settings, a yellow icon on the profile picture will warn us.

Google will soon extend protection against phishing and malware, which prevents the opening of emails containing malicious sites or files, to the entire suite Google Workspacewhich links Gmail to Sheets, Docs, and Slides.

However, Google looks above all to a future without password: to get ever closer to this goal, Google introduces the automatic registration oftwo-step authentication (2FA), a prevention measure that since last year has made it possible to register over 150 million new accounts securely, so as to minimize the risk of phishing and virtual identity theft.

In the same way they are becoming more and more popular virtual cards, a feature that makes online purchases simple and immediate. To date, even the automatic filling through the Google account requires you to enter the security code (CVV) of the card at the time of payment; thanks to virtual cards, which will be associated with a unique number, users will be able to purchase safely without exposing their credit card details.

This last feature is for now exclusive to United States: Google will introduce virtual cards for Visa, American Express and Capital One this summer, with Mastercard on the way by the end of 2022.

Google I / O security

In terms of privacy, Google makes the toolkit available to users Protected Computinga series of data processing technologies that make it possible to minimize the amount of identifiable personal data, anonymize them when necessary and limit access to them using end-to-end encryption tools and security keys.

As for the control of personal information, finally, the search engine presented two new tools of data defense. Removal policy from search results becomes easier: with a single click, you can ask Google to remove data such as phone numbers and addresses.

The Ads Center also renews itself with more controls to monitor ad privacy displayed on YouTube, the Search Network, and the News feed. Users will be able to check and review the types of ads they see and the reasons why Google decides to show them.
